Del West Valves Powering First McLaren Street Car

Valencia, Calif., December 6, 2011 – Del West Engineering, Inc. announced today that its engine valves are powering the McLaren MP4-12C, the first sports car designed and built by the famed Formula One race car team.

"Here we are, two companies with a history in racing, offering the latest racing innovations in a car with a ride so smooth you could drive it to the supermarket," said Al Sommer, CEO of Del West Engineering, Inc. "It's the perfect chance to show how light-weight, high-strength materials can improve not just the race car on your TV, but the one in your garage as well."

The MP4-12C embodies many of the same qualities as Del West's valvetrain components. Del West uses its latest racing technology to ensure its valves can survive in the ultra-high performance McLaren engine -- an engine that is as close to a race specification as any that ever hit the street.

"This is one of the highest-output motors relative to size ever made for the street," said Mark Sommer, president of Del West USA.

So, too, the Woking, England-based McLaren Automotive has created a carbon chassis that is both stronger and lighter than those generally seen on the street today.

The result is a vehicle that is safe, fuel-efficient – and powerful.

Del West started shipping valves for the McLaren earlier this year. The valves are going into a turbo-charged V8 engine with four-valve configuration manufactured for McLaren by Ricardo, the engineering firm based in Sussex, England.

"To be in McLaren's first entry onto the street is fantastic," Mark Sommer said. "We believe this is going to be one of the world's premiere car companies for many years to come."
