"The drivers and the car owners, they see our valves and they go, 'Whoa!, How do I get my hands on parts like that?'" said Phil Martin, sales manager for Del West USA. "I say, well, just walk on over here."

Martin says shows like Parts Peddler are a great chance to chat with the racers as well as the owners "and show them the product right there, as opposed to at the track."

He likes to bring out a Del West titanium valve -- fully coated in chromium nitride – that's run 20 races, and compare it to an uncoated valve that's run five races.

"The uncoated valve is ready to go in the trash, but our valve, even after 20 races, is ready to pop right back in the engine," he said. "They can see with their own eyes how the coating makes the valve last so much longer."

And the best part? The added protection does not mean added cost. "The price of our valves," Martin said, "stays exactly the same."

The Del West Parts Peddler booth featured the chromium-nitride-coated valves, as well as other Del West manufactured components such as retainers, locks and valve guides.

Parts Peddler celebrated its 32nd anniversary when it ran from November 18-20 at the New York State Fairgrounds. The event showcased manufacturers and other businesses related to big block modified cars and other forms of Northeast auto racing.
