Beryllium Copper Seat Inserts
Del West strongly recommends the use of beryllium copper alloy seat inserts matched with our titanium valves for auto and motorcycle racing. Tight dimensional control is the necessity to a correct installation and is a hallmark of Del West seat inserts.
Del West offers two beryllium copper alloys — Alloy 25 and Alloy 3.
Alloy 25 has the optimal material properties best suited for the intake valve environment. This alloy is 98 percent copper and provides sufficient heat transfer and superior strength. This alloy will transfer the necessary heat to extend the intake valve life while being able to withstand the forces applied by the intake valve upon closing.
Alloy 3 has the optimal material properties best suited for the exhaust valve environment. This alloy is more than 99 percent copper and provides superior heat transfer and sufficient strength. This alloy will transfer the necessary heat from the exhaust valve into the cylinder head to help prevent premature seat pitting and heat related fractures.
In some extreme environments, other alloys become applicable such as sintered iron, or various copper mold alloys.
